Editorial & Safety Policy
How SmellFixer reviews claims, prioritizes safety and avoids fake certainty.
Our editorial rule is simple: source removal before scent masking, safety before DIY, and uncertainty stated plainly.
Confidence is qualitative
We do not invent percentages such as “82% likely.” The Smell Finder ranks pages from the clues selected by the reader; it does not calculate a validated probability.
Primary-source preference
For gas, carbon monoxide, mold/moisture, dryer fire and septic safety, we prefer public primary sources such as PHMSA, CDC, EPA, CPSC and NFPA materials. Other household troubleshooting is written conservatively and avoids claims that require a laboratory test or code inspection.
Chemical safety
We do not recommend mixing household cleaners. A page that mentions cleaning defers to the product/appliance manufacturer where compatibility matters.
Corrections
If you find an error, contact contact@smellfixer.com. We may revise or remove a guide when a safer or more accurate approach is identified.
